Think Alive's Philosophy
Think Alive's philosophy is simple: childhood exploration exposes the path for a lifetime of success. With the financial support of an Achievement Grant, a disabled adolescent can see the path towards success, and decide for him or herself what the future will hold. The Achievement Grant serves as more than just the financing for a wheelchair or one year of school. Rather, it is a springboard for the disabled adolescent to become productive members of an increasingly competitive society, giving them the confidence that they indeed belong and can achieve just like any of their able-bodied peers. Without achievement and the vision of possibility as an adolescent, it can be easy for a disabled adolescent to simply give up and succumb to their disability. By awarding grants to those in the midst of their personal growth, this pattern can be reversed.
Some goals don't give immediately vindication, and are much more of a journey than others. Even for these goals, a Think Alive Achievement Grant can easily expand horizons if the disabled individual can immerse him or herself in the activity. All recipients—those that succeed immediately and those that don't—will understand the dedication needed for success. From there it is up to them, but with a Think Alive Achievement Grant, through experiential learning, each and every disabled American adolescent can find that passion early in life that can teach them a life of success.
